When we break out this Pupsicle, our dog would ignore a raw steak, I swear. To fill it, we use both the balls they sell and make our own & freeze them. The advantage of their balls is that they are shelf stable (though freezing them gives the dog about 5 minutes more with the ball.) The advantage of making our own, which is a 50-50 mix of canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie mix) and canned dog food, is that it’s about a third the calories. Easy to make with the provided molds. We immediately bought a second so we could throw one in the dishwasher. A bottle brush works fine if you wash by hand; there are nooks & crannies that you can’t really get with a rag or scrubber.

So far, I have no complaints. I can see that this toy might not work well for some combinations of dogs and people, but for my two current dogs (blue heeler and small terrier), this thing, plus the treat mold, is GREAT!

I love that the dogs get it more or less fully emptied, and it is washable. I love that I can pre-prepare a whole bunch of frozen fillings by using the treat mold (sold separately).

Yes, I agree that this is a very expensive item, especially if you buy the treat mold along with the toy. I bought two toys at a very reduced price on Prime day, also bought the treat mold at full price, and consider the combined purchase a great value at this cost. The current price (for the toy) is comparable to the cost of an extra-large Toppl, and I’ve seen it at a price similar to the current cost of a large Toppl. I checked the current price of the XXL “extreme” Kong I needed to use for one dog, and the current price on a different web site is almost the same as the Woof Pupsicle.

To answer questions and issues I’ve seen mentioned…

    * My terrier weighs 16 pounds and uses the large toy with no problem. Possibly it is minimally less thoroughly cleaned out, but I’m not positive about that. My only warning would be that you ought to keep track of calories and/or what you put in it because you could potentially give a small dog way too many empty calories from “junk food.”

    * The toy is still usable without the treat mold. Just fill up the solid half of the toy and stick it in the freezer overnight, same as you would do with a Kong, except it takes up less space.

    * Do introduce it properly, by initially giving it with NON-frozen and sticky food in it. An even more slow, careful, step-wise introduction may be necessary if your dog is a destructo-dog.

    * The terrier takes about 20 minutes to empty it of frozen canned dog food. That’s non-trivial, and I’m not sure why people are complaining. The heeler takes less time (maybe 15 minutes?), but it’s still an amount of time that is helpful for me, and this licking activity seems to be especially calming for her (as compared to using the food puzzle toys with kibble).

    * It initially was extremely difficult to open and close the thing. I was best able to do it with a “light” touch, not pulling and making sure not to press the two surfaces together. After not very long, it became much easier. I didn’t need to use oil. If you have trouble getting it closed, it became a lot easier after the solid part was frozen (while the vented part stayed at room temperature).

    * I agree with others that a larger version might be nice, but a larger version might make dogs more likely to destroy the toy in place of emptying it by focused licking.

    * I’m not sure that any of these toys are truly indestructible. People are mentioning Kongs. Well, my Kongs have required periodic replacement. They have tooth marks and eventually get “modified” to where pieces might get torn off and consumed. For one dog, I had to upgrade to the XXL-size Extreme (black) version, and she also put tooth marks in that.

I own a fortune’s worth of Kongs, Toppls, and a couple similar food toys, and they all have their issues. They have holes in them that allow liquid to immediately come out (before freezing occurs). They are bulky and use up a lot of space in the freezer, and the unusual shapes make them non-stackable. For me, Kong toys are time-consuming to fill and difficult to clean. My dogs couldn’t get the very end cleaned out without throwing the Kong around (making a big mess), and even then it wasn’t fully clean. Some did end up with mold in that part of them. [It looks like new inventions, like plugs (or something like that), may solve some of the problems; I didn’t have those.]

I mention the other toys only to say that this unique brilliant toy has seeming solved all those problems, and my dogs truly LOVE this toy as well. Be assured, I will update this review if anything changes.

We picked up the small version of these after seeing our friend’s dog go crazy for hers at a brewery. It kept her busy for our whole meal and then some. Bought it the same day, and glad I did! our rescue dogs don’t really care for Kongs, but these they LOVED. I think because we picked up some pup pops from the brand – the chicken ones – and they like it better than just frozen peanut butter.

Now they cruise by the shelf we keep them on and always “ask” for them …. daily. They’ll eat us out of house and home if we let them! This is a great distraction treat and keeps our super-eater busy for about 20 minutes, and our more picky eater about 35-45 minutes. Will definitely order again.

This toy seems like a great idea. But it is not strong enough to stand up to the dogs that need it. I thought these would be great toys for my two huskies since they aren’t big chewers. These require no prep work if you buy the brands treats. I have kongs that are 7 yrs old and still in great usable conditions. These photos are after one use, it took them each 30 minutes.

My 8yr old had half ripped the blue one open besides chewing it up. My other dog did for the most part only lick it so for him it’s fine. But I feel this toy creates some frustration since they can’t get to the food. I wouldn’t leave my dogs unattended with these, all the openings are too easy for a tooth the get stuck. For the price the durability is non existent. I wanted to love these but they aren’t for my dogs. I’ve purchased many treat toys on Amazon for less that are more durable. I do love that I don’t have to fill and freeze them in advance. The screwing aspect wonky and difficult even in perfect condition.

I will say the company has great customer service, they did refund the destroyed one. I ended up buying one of the black power chewer ones. Since is really want these to work for me. While it is holding up better, I don’t expect it last more than 6-8 months.

I got this treat ball for my Great Pyrenees puppy. He gets separation anxiety and I was hoping that this would give him an enriching and engaging thing to do to keep him busy while I’m gone at work. It works great, but I would recommend not getting the treats by the same company as they are really expensive and instead making your own with peanut butter and flour. The ball is great though and he will keep at it for a few hours at a time. I’d say the material is fairly durable, but if he really wanted to destroy it, it wouldn’t last more than a couple days. Here’s to hoping that doesn’t happen.

  6. NOTABLEROSE

This is a great way to keep your dog occupied for 15-20 minutes. My pup gets so excited every time I bring it out! The casing is extremely durable and easy to use. I bought the mold to make my own treats and fill it with things like peanut butter, yogurt, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, etc. It’s not the cheapest toy, but heavy duty and she loves it, so well worth the money! Highly recommend it!

  7. NOTABLEROSE

Our 10 year old pups, love these- keeps them busy for a long time. Easy to use, much less messy than stuffing Kongs. The premade ball fillers are shelf stable. Dishwasher safe- A total win win🐾

  8. Dana Reinert

This is excellent when filled and used with the frozen moulds of yoghurt or peanut butter.
Keeps my 9 month heavy chewer labrador pup busy for sometime – especially useful when sitting down to lunch/supper.
However you do have to take it away once finished sucking the frozen contents as he would destroy if left with it. After 2 uses it has some deep teeth marks where he has tried to open it.

  9. Stacy Berry

Bought these for our two girls to keep them busy when we head out somewhere. Our dogs love them! These are fantastic to use & super easy to clean. Just unscrew, rinse & throw in the dishwasher. I’m excited that we can buy their premade treats or make our own with the molds too! Great product!
